Assistant Professor, California State University, Sacramento

The Government Department at California State University, Sacramento seeks candidates who specialize in American identity politics to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin in Fall 2017. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Political Science, Political Sociology, or related field. ABD candidates will be considered; if ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree by January 2018. Applicants are expected to have a strong commitment to college teaching and to be able to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in identity politics in the United States, especially courses in race and ethnicity, such as: Latino politics, Native-American/indigenous politics, Asian-American politics, or African-American politics. Furthermore, applicants are expected to have the ability to teach introduction to American government (GOVT 1) and a class on the politics of the underrepresented (GOVT 165). Candidates are required to demonstrate potential for scholarly achievement and to have strong substantive and methodological training, though the position is open with regard to methodological approach. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student body and a diverse community. Furthermore, experience in promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of a diverse student body is preferred, as is experience in working with a diverse community and interest in working with a proposed academic center on race, ethnicity, immigration, and social justice at Sacramento State.
