The Sociology Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for its majors in Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies.
Minimum Qualifications: We seek candidates with primary teaching and research interests in Victimization (e.g., Human Trafficking, State-based violence), with attention paid to one or more of the following areas: Globalization, Social Movements, Urbanization, or Work/Labor. Candidates should be actively engaged in research. PhD in Sociology or related interdisciplinary area (e.g., Criminology, Ethnic Studies, Justice Studies, Women’s Studies) completed prior to August 1, 2017.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Special attention will be paid to candidates whose research focuses on Class, Race, and/or Gender and can teach quantitative methods. Preferred candidates for this position will offer evidence of teaching interests and expertise in the Core Courses and electives in the Crime and Justice area of our Criminology and Justice Studies major (see http://www.csusm.edu/2cadvising/majorminor/worksheets/crim/14-16crim.pdf or http://www.csusm.edu/catalog/documents/2016-2018/CSUSM-2016-2018-Catalog.pdf ). Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.
Duties: Candidates should be prepared/willing to offer courses such as: Quantitative Research Methods, Introduction to Justice Studies, Criminology, Analysis of the Justice System and Criminal Law, and/or Internship in Criminology and Justice Studies. Candidates may also have opportunities to develop courses in other areas of interest. Teaching interest should be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students. The successful candidate will also develop an active research agenda and participate in activities serving the department, college, university, and community.
