Ph.D. in Sociology required by date August 22, 2017. The Department of Sociology seeks a dedicated instructor who is committed to teaching and will complement our current faculty strengths. We seek applications from candidates who demonstrate expertise in Race/Ethnicity, with priority given to applicants who also have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Immigration, Labor, Applied/Public Sociology and/or Social Welfare/Social Justice. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and professional and/or community service. Applicants must demonstrate ability to effectively work with a diverse student population. The successful applicant is committed to educational equity in a multicultural setting and to promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds and with diverse perspectives. Experience in advising, course development, and/or securing external grants is advantageous.

Teaching responsibilities will include courses in human sexuality and gender as well as courses in one or more of the following areas: race/ethnicity, applied/public sociology, or social welfare/social justice. Course load may include both lower and upper division courses. There may be additional teaching opportunities in our graduate program. Normal teaching load is 12 units per semester, with opportunities for reduction in teaching load for funded research. There will be a reduced teaching load during the first two years of appointment. The successful candidate will also be expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, advise students, contribute to department, college, and university committees, and participate in professional conferences.
