The Department of Sociology and the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society at Vanderbilt University are conducting a cluster hire in medical sociology/medical social science with an emphasis on racial/ethnic disparities.

  • The Sociology Department seeks to fill two openings in medical sociology: (1) a tenure-track assistant professor position and (2) a tenured associate or full professor position.
  • The Center of Medicine, Health, and Society seeks to fill a tenured associate or full professor position in the areas of intersectionality, inequality, and health/mental health.

Tenure-track Assistant Professor:

The Department of Sociology at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position, to begin fall semester 2017. We seek a medical sociologist with research and teaching interests in racial/ethnic disparities in health (including the social determinants of mental and/or physical health, social organization of health, or health policy). Candidacy for this position will be strengthened if the applicant can also contribute to one or more of our existing departmental strengths in environment, gender, global/comparative, population and migration, social movements, politics and organizations.  Strong quantitative research skills and the ability to obtain external funding are highly desirable.
