Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Newark, a partnership between Bard College and the Newark Public Schools in Newark, NJ, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in History and/or Social Sciences, beginning September 2017.
The field of specialization is open. For candidates specializing in the history of the Americas, expertise in African American, Caribbean, and/or Latin American history is especially desirable. For global historians, expertise in African, Middle Eastern, or East Asian history is especially desirable. Candidates from social science fields such as political science, geography, sociology, and anthropology will also be considered, but all candidates must be able to teach part of their course load in history.
BHSEC, a national model of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to complete a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College within four years of study. The academic program emphasizes small classes and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body.
The successful applicant for this position must be committed to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service. Ph.D. and college teaching experience required; high school teaching experience and/or experience working with youth desirable. Work authorization in the United States required for all BHSEC Newark faculty positions.
