Assistant Professor, Texas Tech University

Position Description:

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin September 1st, 2025.

The College of Arts & Sciences (CA&S) both represented original academic areas when TTU opened in 1925.   The CA&S is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.

About the Department/School/Area:

The Sociology Program in the Department of SASW has 13 full-time faculty members as well as instructors, lecturers, and affiliated faculty. As one of the largest and fastest-growing undergraduate programs on campus, we offer bachelor’s degrees in sociology and criminology in addition to a master’s degree in sociology. Major/Essential Functions:

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Required Qualifications:

  1. D. in Sociology or a highly related field from an appropriately regionally or nationally accredited university. If clarification is needed, please email the search chair.
  2. A record of consistent effort in i) teaching excellence and ii) improving teaching and/or mentorship in higher education. Experience as a doctoral student may fulfill this criterion.
  3. Research experience and publication record in the areas of environmental sociology.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. Experience working in a transdisciplinary fashion with experts from disciplines other than sociology.
  2. Experience securing or working with external research funding
