- The Center for Entrepreneurship and the Program for Leadership and Character at Wake Forest University seek an engaged, creative, and committed teacher-scholar to fill a position as Assistant Teaching Professor. This full-time, non-tenure track position with benefits offers an initial two-year appointment with possibility of renewal and promotion on a teaching-centered career path. The Assistant Teaching Professor will join an innovative and interdisciplinary cohort of emerging scholars from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to develop and teach leadership and character-related courses in their respective disciplines. This is a teaching-centric role with responsibilities divided as 80% teaching and 20% service. The course load is 3 per semester (a 3:3 load), including development and delivery of at least two courses with a primary focus on Leadership and Character in the context of Entrepreneurship and at least two courses that integrate Leadership and Character into Entrepreneurship. The person in this role will also contribute to the co-curricular programming of the Center for Entrepreneurship and the Program for Leadership and Character. In addition to participating in course development workshops and mentoring from faculty in both programs, the Assistant Teaching Professor will work with research scholars from the Program for Leadership and Character to assess the impact of their courses and potentially publish relevant research.We welcome candidates with a Ph.D. or terminal degree in in sociology, communication, philosophy, religious studies, education, leadership studies, entrepreneurship, management, organizational behavior, organizational studies, business ethics, or related fields who specialize in entrepreneurship, leadership, and/or ethics and have interest in working across disciplines to pursue ethics- and entrepreneurship-related teaching and research. The Center for Entrepreneurship at Wake Forest University is an exciting academic program that is uniquely positioned in the College of Arts and Sciences. We offer an interdisciplinary minor that seeks to educate and inspire entrepreneurial leaders through engaged teaching, coaching, and mentoring within a robust and vibrant entrepreneurial culture. In addition to our undergraduate minor, we offer a robust set of co-curricular programs that draw creatively on the liberal arts to prepare ethical and effective entrepreneurs. The Program for Leadership and Character is an innovative program that plans creative, liberal arts-based programming to help students develop the virtues of character needed to lead in an increasingly complex world. The Program is based on cutting-edge academic research on leadership and character, including research conducted by Wake Forest faculty who are leading experts on the study of character. The Program has established a partnership with the Oxford Character Project, received major grants from foundations to support leadership and character development in the College and professional schools, and been profiled as a model for how universities can educate character.

- Develops at least two new syllabi and other teaching resources related to leadership and character in the context of entrepreneurship
- Provides academic advising to lower-division students and minors in
- Participates in course development workshops and ongoing professional development related to leadership and character.
- Works with the Co-Directors of Research and Assessment in the Program for Leadership and Character to develop assessment plans for their courses, assess the impact of their courses, and potentially publish relevant scholarly research.
- Assists with designing and delivering curricular and co-curricular programming for the Center for Entrepreneurship and the Program for Leadership and Character.
- Assists other faculty in the Center for Entrepreneurship with integrating leadership and/or character into their courses or curricula.
- Attends meetings, retreats, and convenings of the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Program for Leadership and Character, and the College faculty.
- Provide service to the Center for Entrepreneurship, Program for Leadership and Character, and the College.
- Pursues relevant research, presents research in academic contexts, and represents both programs at relevant academic conferences and educational convenings.
- Meets as needed with the Directors of the Center for Entrepreneurship, Executive Director of the Program for Leadership and Character, and related faculty and staff.
- Provides summaries and information about their work for inclusion in both programs’ annual reports.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in sociology, communication, philosophy, religious studies, education, leadership studies, entrepreneurship, management, organizational behavior, organizational studies, business ethics, or related fields who specialize in entrepreneurship, leadership, and/or ethics required. Other degrees may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
- Teaching and/or research expertise related to leadership, character, virtue, and/or ethics.
- Commitment to interdisciplinary teaching, research, and engagement.
- Record of excellent undergraduate teaching and mentoring and a commitment to developing creative pedagogy.
- Commitment to supporting the intellectual and ethical development of undergraduate students.
- Experience with, and sensitivity to, diverse populations and the ability to build inclusive and equitable communities where differences are appreciated and engaged.
- Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
