Penn State Harrisburg (PSH), the Capital College of Penn State University, invites applications for a Non-Tenure-Track Assistant Teaching Professor Position in Sociology. This position is a full-time, limited-term, 36-weeks appointment starting in Fall 2023.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teaching four courses per semester and advising and mentoring students.
- Recruitment and retention of students in the Bachelor of Science Program in Sociology, active scholarship, and service to the school and college.
Education & Experience:
- The assistant teaching professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to his/her teaching specialization.
- Alternatively, the assistant teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.
- A doctorate in Sociology or a related field at the time of hire is required.
- All areas of expertise will be considered. However, preference will be given to candidates who can effectively teach in some or all of the following areas:
- sociology of the family; sociology of health with an emphasis on health disparities among diverse populations; and issues involving the intersection of race, gender, and class.
- The ideal candidate will possess excellence in teaching, a strong desire to mentor students, and assist in growing the vision and scope of the sociology program.
- The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the principles of diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
