Position description
Qualifications include an exceptional scholarly research and publication record, an outstanding teaching record, experience with interdisciplinary instructional programs, and strong administrative skills. The department welcomes candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to inclusive excellence and community-engagement.
An interdisciplinary instructional program in African American Studies was established at UCLA in 1974. The program achieved departmental status during the 2013-14 academic year. The department maintains both BA and MA degree programs and offers a joint MA/JD program with the UCLA School of Law. This search is a partnership between the Department of African American Studies and the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies as part of the campus-wide effort to rising to the challenge of racial and social justice at UCLA, sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost.

The salary range for this position is $112,900-$205,400. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. The anticipated appointment date is July 1, 2025.
