Villanova University. The Department of Sociology and Criminology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Sociology at the rank of assistant professor to begin in August 2026. We seek candidates whose research, teaching and service has prepared them to support the University’s mission, particularly regarding community service and social justice. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the Sociology program and consist of 4 undergraduate courses for the first academic year (2/2 teaching load) and 5 undergraduate courses for following academic years (3/2 teaching load with a semester-long sabbatical after a positive third-year review). Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Sociology by the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should be pursuing an active research agenda and producing high-quality publications. They should also demonstrate a commitment to effective teaching at the undergraduate level and be willing to teach an introductory-level course as well as a research methods and/or data analysis course, among other courses in their areas of expertise. We especially encourage applicants who focus on one or more of the following areas: digital sociology, critical media studies, and science and technology studies, although other areas may be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching duties include a 2/2 teaching load for the first year and a 3/2 teaching load for the following two years. After a successful Third Year Review, a one-semester sabbatical at full pay is available in the fourth year and the 3/2 teaching load continues for years five and six. Upon receiving tenure and promotion, associate professors may be granted a 2/2 teaching load.
